EHS Hall Of Fame Inducts Chad Schmitt
2009 Hall of Fame
Elgin Public graduate Chad Schmitt was also recognized for his athletic contributions. Schmitt received numerous letters and several distinguished awards throughout his involvement in football and basketball at EPS. He also held a variety of records in both sports.
Throughout his football career, Schmitt was a three-year letter winner. He was also named to the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star All-State Teams as a first team selection during his senior year and honorable mention selection during his junior year. Schmitt was also a repeat selection to the Niobrara Valley Conference All-Conference First Team. He was a Norfolk Daily News Top 20 pick, captain of the All Region Team in the Huskerland Prep Report, and he earned a spot in the 8-Man All-Star Game. Schmitt was also a state record holder in career completions. He established many individual school records as well.
On the basketball court, Schmitt also played an integral role as a three-year letter winner. He was an All-State Second Team selection in both the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Journal Star during his junior year. During his senior year, he was selected to both first teams. As a junior, he was named honorary captain to the D-2 All-State Tournament Team. He was tabbed for All-Conference First Team Honors both years as well. He was twice named KEXL’s Outstanding Athlete of the Game and was also a member of KOLN’s D-2 All-State Coaches’ Team. Norfolk Daily News identified him as an All-State Top Ten pick, and he was named to the Nebraska Holiday Prep Classic All-Tournament Team. He was selected to play in the Nebraska Coaches’ Association All-Star game and was a member of the NVC All-Star Team. In addition to receiving other honors, Schmitt was a school record setter.
Nominating parties identified Schmitt as role model for both students and athletes alike.

He is a hardworking, goal-oriented young man who puts the well-being of his family first and then finishes the job at hand. He is proud to say that he graduated from Elgin High School and is a true example to all kids that if you put your mind into your school work, you can become successful in life.”
