2013 Honored Alumnus
Millie Iburg Mundorf-Class of 1962
Millie Iburg Mundorf was chosen as this year's Honored Alumnus. Accepting the award for Millie were her daughters Amber and Tricia.
What follows is Millie's write up about her award as read by her daughter Amber.
"Welcome to Elgin and our Alumni Banquet. I learned only yesterday that I was going to receive this award. I was shocked, humbled and honored. I could not attend this year due to health problems. But next year is Elgin's Q125 and the 2014 Alumni banquet. So please plan early to come join us.
I heard recently that the gym is going to have air conditioning. Hurrah!!! I came to Elgin when I was two years old. Three years later I started kindergarten. I had a great education at Elgin High, in fact one of my favorite teachers is here tonight-Bessie Hawks. And class with her was like boot camp. When I got to high school I thought I was on vacation. After graduating I spent one year at beauty college and half a year at UNL. Then I came back to and opened my beauty salon. Then I married my teacher Jerry Mundorf. He was the coach, principal and then superintendent. After a seven year marriage we moved to the house on the street across from school and I have watched all of the parents take their children to school. Our three children graduated from Elgin High. All this time there were many changes at the school you have to see.
Have you driven past or have gone in to see it? It is worth your time.
So God bless you and I hope to see you all next year.
Millie Mundorf"
Millie lived here and loved Elgin all of her life. She operated the Clip n Curl Beauty Salon for 48 years and tried to make everyone beautiful.
She played the organ for church, starting at ten years old, when she was sixteen she started playing for the Methodist Church as well, when the Lutheran minister tried to talk to her father, Fred, to discourage her playing at another church, he said, "Any time my sixteen year old daughter wants to spend extra time in church, it's okay with me."
She does her best to love everyone in this town and share her wonderful sense of humor with all of us and finally...she did a lot of yard work in her swimsuit."
