2018 Honored Alumnus
Bill Kuester Class of 1968
This year’s Honored Alumnus grew up with ten brothers and sisters and went to country school in grades K-8. In 1964 he became an Elgin Eagle freshman.
He was very involved with all sports, especially football, basketball, track, and FFA. After graduation from EHS, he went on to play in the Shrine Bowl and then on to Chadron State College where he continued to play football for four years. He graduated from Chadron State in 1972, went on to get a Masters Degree at Kearney State College and his Specialist Degree from Wayne State College.
Our Honored Alumnus graduated from EHS with the class of 1968. In-between going to school, he married one of his classmates, Pam Busteed. They have two children, Julie and Brock, and five grandchildren.
He has been a P.E. teacher, has coached football and track, then went on to be an Elementary Principal and finally a Superintendent of Schools. He was also the Antelope County Superintendent for quite a few years. He has been an educator in every school in Antelope County, except Elgin. His wife says that is because he substitute taught at Elgin one day, and they never called him back again.
He is a Knights of Columbus member in Neligh and very active at St. Francis Catholic Church. He is also a board member at ESU #8.
Now that he is retired, he enjoys watching his grandchildren’s activities, and he likes to go to area events in Antelope County to see how former students and peers are doing. He enjoys golfing, fixing fence on his little acreage and reading the Omaha Paper from front to back which might take three hours a day. He will tell you his greatest joy as an educator is watching his former students’ lives be fulfulled.
He was and is a true Elgin Eagle, and Elgin will always be a big part of his life. Our 2018 Elgin High School Honored Alumnus is Mr. Bill Kuester.
